Driver charged for double fatal crash in Rockford

A Rockford woman faces charges after police say she crashed a car in the early morning hours of January 19, leaving her two passengers dead.

Antavia McGee, 21, was also injured in the crash, when the vehicle left the road on South Winnebago Street and hit a tree. Twenty-year-old Shakiyla Ellis and 23-year-old Desiree Manery were pronounced dead at the scene.

McGee was transported to a local hospital and released on January 24, when she was charged with the following:

  • 6 counts Aggravated DUI Causing Death
  • 6 counts Reckless Homicide
  • 4 counts Aggravated DUI
