DEKALB (WREX) -

Around 7:00 p.m. Wednesday night, the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department responded to a four vehicle crash on Route 23 just south of Lloyd Road.

A freightliner driven by Howard Castleman of Rockford was driving southbound on Route 23 when it crossed the center line and struck a Ford truck driven by 34-year-old Ryan Martin of Sugar Grove. A car behind Martin then rear-ended him and a car behind the third vehicle then rear-ended that vehicle.

Castleman's truck stopped in the west ditch, Martin's came to rest in the east ditch, and the third and fourth vehicles involved stopped in the road.

Martin was pronounced dead at the scene. All other occupants, including a passenger in Martin's vehicle, were transported to Kishwaukee Community Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Castleman was treated and released. He was then arrested and charged with Improper Lane Usage, DUI, and Aggravated DUI.

The crash is still under investigation and further charges are pending.
