Freeport summit brings several communities together

A local summit welcomes mayors, trustees and managers from several communities to share solutions for problems within local, state and federal governments.

Freeport Mayor George Gaulrapp started the Municipal Financial Summit 3 years ago in search of solutions to problems statewide.  The summit involves about 20 other communities, all discussing differences in tactics.  A grant specialist shared how Freeport applies for grants and the process the city has to take.

"I saw a lot of heads nodding up and down saying ‘Okay, we've been doing things the wrong way, Freeport's doing it the right way, as far as grants, let's copy Freeport.' So that's what we want to do.  We want to involve other communities with ours."

Mayor Gaulrapp would like another community to host a meeting, broadening the area that the summit covers.
