After a four to three vote by the Village's Administration and Finance Committee, Machesney Park residents will see a five percent increase in their utility bills.
The additional five percent increase adds up to an average of $8 per month, generating about $950,000 a year for the village. Those funds will go toward building and improving roads as well as policing. Despite the committee's support, many Machesney Park residents voiced their opposition to the bill through both email and public comment forms.
For families and individuals who qualify as low income, there is a program that will allow them to get that money back.
