Teen charged as adult for Loves Park crash


A 13-year-old girl who escaped a group home in Elgin with another teen, stole a vehicle, and caused a crash in Rockford, faces multiple charges.

The girl was driving a car with a 14-year-old female passenger, and two adult male passengers when the vehicle hit a GMC pickup truck head-on in the 6100 block of North 2nd Street earlier this month.

All five people involved in the accident were transported to local hospitals, one by helicopter. The driver of the pickup was charged with a DUI.

The girl has been charged with the following:

  • 3 counts Aggravated DUI Involving Great Bodily Harm
  • 1 count Reckless Driving
  • 2 counts Aggravated Reckless Driving
  • 1 count Aggravated DUI Drugs
  • Improper Lane Usage
  • Driving without a Valid Driver's License

Due to the severity of those charges, she is being charged as an adult. She also faces the following charges as a juvenile:

  • Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle
  • Theft

She was lodged in the Winnebago County Juvenile Detention Facility in lieu of bond.
