School safety summit called by Illinois officials

Law enforcement, school employees, and state officials are gathering in Springfield Tuesday to discuss school safety.

A summit was called by Governor Pat Quinn to find ways to make Illinois schools safer after the Newtown, Connecticut elementary school shooting that left 20 children dead last month.

School violence prevention, emergency preparedness, and making buildings more secure will all be discussed.

Representatives from the Illinois State Police, the State Board of Education, and the Illinois Terrorism Task Force are all scheduled to attend.
