Comprehensive Community Solutions and its flagship program, YouthBuild Rockford AmeriCorps, helped serve the Rockford community on the National Martin Luther King Day of Service.
Pastor William Turner kicked off the day's activities with a speech about keeping Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s dream alive. Representatives from local businesses, non-profits, and educational institutions were also on hand to teach attendees about opportunities and services available in the community.
Just before lunch, Mr. Brandon Russell gave a speech on how individuals should use the gifts life has given to them. Students, staff, and the community then spent the day volunteering at Goodwill, the Rockford Rescue Mission, and Rockford Life Center.
CCS is a non-profit working with workforce development, housing, and community development. YouthBuild Rockford AmeriCorps works with young adults between the ages of 16 and 24 who have dropped out of school. The program helps participants earn their GEDs, teaches job skills, and also helps to build affordable housing for families who are homeless or have low income.
