Children and young adults showed off their skills during an event honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Washington Park Community Center.
Dozens gathered to watch the kids perform skits that included dancing and singing. Organizers said the celebration also had another meaning since the day also marked President Obama's second inauguration.
"While we're celebrating the legacy of Dr. King, we're also celebrating the inauguration for the second term of President Barack Obama, so you're seeing people in and out, you know, there's just a lot of mixed emotions and excitement going on, period," Rockford Ministers Fellowship President Pastor Herbert Johnson said.
Pastor Johnson said seeing all the young people and families involved in the celebration was heartwarming.
