Rockford gas prices up 5 cents

Despite prices staying relatively the same around the nation, gas prices have risen five cents in the Rockford area during the last week.

According to's daily survey of 139 area gas stations, the average price of gas in the area was $3.30 on Sunday, 10.1 cents lower than one year ago, but 12.3 cents higher than just one month ago.

Nationally, prices have increased just 0.7 cents per gallon to $3.26, 8.9 cents lower than one year ago and 1.9 cents higher than one month ago.

"While gasoline prices have seemingly remained virtually unchanged in many areas across the U.S. in the last week, that has meant that some areas are still seeing prices remain much lower than a year ago," Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan said. He added, "The national average now lags prices one year ago by nine cents per gallon, which is a more optimistic start to the year than I would have expected."
