So far this flu season, 476 people in Illinois have been admitted to hospital intensive care units for the virus; 50 people have died.
Illinois is just one of 30 states in the nation to report high flu activity this year. So far, the virus has struck earlier than normal and the main strain of the flu is the one that is making people sicker.
Officials with the Illinois Department of Public Health are encouraging people to get the flu vaccine.
