Students volunteer time with autistic students

Local A Team heroes take on the community with various projects.

Belvidere high school students volunteer their time to help students with autism at Seth Whitman Elementary.

Their goal is to make the autistic students feel comfortable in the social, school setting.  One project they're working on is called "Birthday Buddies."  Students are collecting birthday cake items to give to kids in need.

Belvidere North High School sophomore, Joey Alosowsky has been volunteering since the program began 7 years ago.

"I've always enjoyed doing this.  It's been fun helping out other people and I really enjoy helping out Miss Erisman.  She's been a great person to watch and its inspirational watching her help these kids."

Belvidere North High School sophomore, Emily Macaluso, says she enjoys her time helping the students out.

"I love the kids, I love interacting with them and I love all the special bonds that we've formed over the years."

The A Team has 40 participants this year.
