Local A Team helps ensure happy birthdays

A group of local heroes is helping to make birthday memories for those in need.

The A Team consists of Belvidere high school students who volunteer their time to help autistic students at Seth Whitman Elementary. The group is currently working on putting together Birthday Boxes to donate to the district's Community Cupboard, a school-based food pantry.

"I've always enjoyed doing this," Belvidere North High School Sophomore Joey Alosowsky said. "It's been fun helping out other people."

Belvidere North Sophomore Emily Macaluso added, "I love the kids. I love interacting with them, and I love all the special bonds that we've formed over the years."

The A Team was established seven years ago. It currently has 40 participants.
