Brookview Elementary students celebrate Literacy Day

Students at Brookview Elementary spent the day immersed in books, whether it was participating in writing workshops or story-related activities.

During the school day, internationally-known storyteller Phyllis Hostmeyer was on hand to tell stories. Children also got the chance to make what they were reading come to life.

"The students got to pick different classrooms and stories and activities that they would go do," Brookview Elementary Literacy Leader Deanne Legault said. "So, if it's like You Give a Cat a Cupcake, the students are reading the story and frosting cupcakes. Another group is making slime, somebody else is making snow."

Families got the chance to get involved after school with Family Reading Night.
