Foreclosures up in Illinois

CHICAGO (WREX) -

Foreclosures rose 32.6 percent in 2012 compared to 2011, but that number was 10 percent lower than in 2010.

According to a study by RealtyTrac, there were 136,603 filings for foreclosure in the state in 2012, accounting for 2.58 percent of all homes. Default notices, auction-sale notices, and bank repossessions are all included under filings.

Illinois had the fifth-highest foreclosure rate in the nation, but Florida came in first with a rate of one in every 32 housing units. Nevada, Arizona, and Georgia also had higher rates than Illinois.
