Representatives from Taxpayers United of America were in DeKalb Wednesday to reveal the pensions of employees and teachers from NIU, DeKalb Municipal, and DeKalb County.
Jim Tobin, TUA president, says the pensions range from $7 million for one retired university employee to $5 million for one DeKalb County government retiree. While the state government works on pension reform, TUA says it should include raising the retirement age to 67, increasing employee contributions by ten percent, and eliminating cost of living adjustments.
"Government employees should support the reforms," Tobin said. "Tell their union people, 'Yes we should pay half of our own retirement healthcare,' because if they don't support the reforms, the system will collapse."
