The Salvation Army of Winnebago County has announced the results of its annual Red Kettle drive.
The organization exceeded its 2012 Red Kettle goal of $200,000 with a total of $222,916.12 donated at kettle sites. However, with the high number of donations at kettle sites, donations by mail were down last year, leaving the Salvation Army with a shortfall of $21,663 in that area.
The Salvation Army was also able to help families around the community have a happy holiday thanks to the Food for the Needy Drive. Over 3,100 households received Christmas food boxes from the organization and the money raised will also help keep the Army's Food Pantry stocked for several months.
In addition, over 4,200 kids benefited from the 12 Hours of Salvation Toy Drive and The Salvation Army Giving Tree, with over 11,600 toys and stocking stuffers distributed to area children.
