In just a few months, the Frank G. Bauer Parkway will be a toll-free bridge.
The Village of Machesney Park will stop selling tokens for the bridge on January 31. However, you can still buy them at the Winnebago County Highway Department at 424 North Springfield Avenue, or from a manned tollbooth.
The bridge was initially constructed in 1993. The debt for it was fully paid off by the toll on December 31, 2012.
The toll will be removed on March 31. A buyback program will be in place for residents to be reimbursed for excess tokens.
