A Rockford alderman is celebrating a big win, but not in politics.
Pat Curran represents Rockford's 2nd Ward, and also owns Curran's Orchard just west of the city and started pressing cider in 1992. All of that hard work paid off and Curran's Orchard recently took home a national award for its cider.
Alderman Curran said he was especially proud to win the award this year because the drought had terrible effects on last fall's apple crop.
"To win something like this, on a year that we just had, it's just a real thrill," he said.
Curran's Orchard is open from Labor Day until the first of December. They will also make an appearance at this summer's Rockford City Market.
