The 27th Annual Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition that is traditionally held at Sinnissippi Park has been canceled due to lack of snow.
The show was initially postponed, but weather has not cooperated and there is not enough snow to sculpt. Twelve teams from around Illinois were scheduled to compete for the right to represent the state at the U.S. Nationals Snow Sculpting Competition, and 15 high school teams were also planning on joining in on the fun.
"We were holding out hope that enough snow would have accumulated at the Chicago Rockford International Airport over the weekend, but unfortunately, we still don't have the amounts that were needed to form the snow piles to sculpt," Rockford Park District Events & Recreation Projects Manager John Beck said. He added, "We're disappointed that we had to cancel this popular event."
This is the third time in the competition's 27 years that it has had to be canceled.
