The last week saw a 1.9 cent increase in the price of gas in the Rockford area, bringing the average price to $3.26 per gallon, according to GasBuddy.com.
Sunday's prices were 25.2 cents lower than one year ago and 2.4 cents higher than one month ago. Nationally, prices lowered by 0.6 cents last week, making the average price of $3.26 per gallon 8.7 cents lower than one year ago and 1.4 cents lower than one month ago.
"The holiday buzz is wearing off and wholesale gasoline prices have fizzled. It appears that this year there will be little change in gas prices between Christmas and mid-January, something that has only happened one out of the last seven years," according to GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan.
DeHaan added, "Gasoline inventories have rebounded sharply in the past several weeks, certainly a major factor behind the relatively stable gasoline prices."
