Almost 4,000 homes were sold in Winnebago, Boone, and Ogle counties last year, according to Rockford Area Realtors.
That number marks a four-year high for the region and the success is expected to continue this year due to surging demand, low interest rates, and more first-time home buyers. Some sellers could also move up to higher priced real estate.
Almost 40 percent of consumers were first-time buyers last year.
