The three members of an education electoral board will wait until next Tuesday to determine the validity of petitions filed by a former Rockford School Board member.
Julie Pick filed an objection against Alice Saudargas' petitions. Saudargas is running against incumbent Ken Scrivano in Subdistrict C, but was unable to make Wednesday's meeting to defend her petitions because of illness.
Roberta Holzwarth, Pick's attorney, explained the problem Pick saw with Saudargas' petitions, "Part of our objections were signatures where people are registered to vote, but not in Subdistrict C. We also objected to persons who were not registered voters or who were unable to be found from the address given," she said.
School Board President Harmon Mitchell said of the objection, "She entrusted people to circulate the petitions on her behalf, and it behooves Alice to check the petitions to make sure it meets the letter of the law."
Mitchell says the board will meet next Tuesday and hopefully Saudargas will either be able to attend or have someone to represent her when a ruling is made.
