One of the candidates running for Rockford mayor has pledged to donate any pay raise he would receive if elected.
Republican candidate Michael Kleen says he will take the 25 percent pay raise that the elected mayor will receive and donate it to a different local non-profit every month. The mayor's salary was increased from $95,000 a year to almost $130,000 a year by 2016 by the Rockford City Council last October.
Kleen, however, says he sees nothing wrong with the current salary.
"There are plenty of organizations that could use the money, such as the Rockford Rescue Mission and the Carrie Lynn Children's Center," he said.
