It's been five years since a tornado devastated much of Boone County on January 7, 2008.
The rare winter tornado destroyed homes, buildings, and Edward's Apple Orchard. It also derailed a freight train near Harvard.
North Boone Fire Department Chief Gail Worley recalls, "Things started happening in a hurry. I had firemen coming in and we were being dispatched to different places to start seeing what the damage was and the injuries. It was just a chaotic night."
Chief Worley said the tornado made responders more prepared for those in the future, such as the 2010 Caledonia tornado. You can find more on the tornado coverage on our Weather Blog.
