Half of fires caused by home heating devices are reported during the winter months, and the City of Rockford hopes to avoid that by helping those in need of utility assistance.
Space heaters, stoves, or candles are extremely dangerous ways to heat homes and frequently lead to fires. If you have had your utilities disconnected or have a non-working furnace, there is help available.
You can walk in to Rockford's Community Services Office at 555 North Court Street, Suite #301, at any time between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday to apply for assistance with utility reconnection or emergency furnace repair. Appointments are not needed.
However, there are qualifying income levels. For more information on those requirements, call 815-987-5711.
Those who are not disconnected but need help with their utility bills can call 815-987-5711 for available sites and times.
