Belvidere gang member arrested for having stolen gun

A known Belvidere gang member was arrested by Belvidere and Boone County police on multiple charges.

Just before 1:00 a.m. on January 6, officers responded to the 1500 block of Maple Avenue after receiving reports of multiple shots fired. Shortly afterward, Antonio Moreno was located in the 1600 block of Pearl Street.

Moreno tried to run away, but was apprehended after a short foot chase. A 9mm handgun and cannabis was recovered from his upon his arrest. The handgun was found to be stolen from Rockford.

Moreno has been charged with the following:

  • Resisting a peace officer
  • Unlawful possession of cannabis
  • Unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon (Class 2 Felony)

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges and/or arrests are possible.
