Police mistook Colorado theater shooting suspect as officer


Police take the stand in the trial against the man accused of killing 12 people during a the midnight showing of the "Dark Knight Rises".

One of the officers who arrested James Holmes after the July 20 shooting said police confused Holmes for another officer at first because he was wearing body armor. However, they realized Holmes was not an officer because he was not running toward the theater.

According to testimony by the officer and a colleague, Holmes appeared detached after the shooting and voluntarily told officers his apartment was booby trapped.

Twelve were killed and dozens wounded after police say Holmes threw two gas canisters into the theater before opening fire.
