The Illinois Emergency Management Agency has given Winnebago County $3,668,955 in grant money.

The money will go toward a voluntary property buyout program for people who own property in designated floodways, specifically in Blackhawk Island and Edgemere Terrace. Blackhawk Island, which is located near the Chicago-Rockford International Airport, will receive $1,446,034 in grant money. Edgemere Terrace, located near Roscoe, will receive $2,222,921 in grant money.

Winnebago County Director of Development Services Jim Hughes and Winnebago County Cartographic Specialist Chris Dornbush will work with Jack Peterson, a consultant specializing in Community Land Acquisition Services on the projects.

Property owners will be contacted by Peterson.
