After almost three years, Sinnissippi Gardens' Eclipse Lagoon is once again open to skaters.
The lagoon opened at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 3, and skating will be available daily from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. as long as weather permits and conditions are safe. The ice must be at least four to five inches thick to allow for skating.
On-site signs will alert patrons of the ice conditions. You can also call 815-987-8858 or visit www.rockfordparkdistrict.org to find out if it's safe to skate.
Hockey is also available at the lagoon, but only on the north end. Goals are provided by the Park District, but are available on a first come, first served basis.
There are no skate rentals available at the lagoon, so you'll need to bring your own skates. However, the use of the lagoon for ice skating and hockey are free.
The lagoon is located on the campus of the Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens, 1354 North 2nd Street, in Rockford.
