According to a study by the Illinois Department of Transportation, two regional airports are boosting their local economies by about $11 million a year.
The study shows the Whiteside County Airport in Rock Falls and the Dixon Municipal Airport each produce about $5.5 million in local economic activity each year.
According to Whiteside County Administrator Joel Horn, revenue from the airport's hangar rentals, fuel sales, leasing farm land, renting space, and special events all go back into the economy. The airport sees most of its operations from business jets and the rest is from cargo operations.
The study also showed the Dixon Municipal airport created 59 jobs for the region.
