If you're looking for a way to give back to the community, you can start by asking around your local fire department.
Volunteer firefighters are need around the region, according to Loves Park Fire Chief Phil Foley. No experience is needed and volunteers must be between the ages of 18 and 55.
Training is provided by the fire departments and could lead to a career. Chief Foley says he's seen more than 30 volunteers become full-time firefighters later on.
To be connected with a department near you, Chief Foley suggests calling this number: 815-316-1891.
