Three properties belonging to former Dixon comptroller Rita Crundwell will soon have new owners.

The U.S. Marshals service received a total of $1.69 million in offers for the three properties in October, but then opened up a process to receive counteroffers. Thirteen total offers were received and the same buyer is not under contract for more than one piece of property.

The service has now entered into a total of $3 million in contracts with buyers for the properties located on 1403 Dutch Road, 1556 Red Brick Road, and 81 acres of farmland. All properties are located in Lee County.

Another unsolicited offer of $350,000 was received on another property owned by Crundwell, located at 1679 U.S. Highway 52 in Dixon. Counteroffers on that property will be accepted until 2:00 p.m. CST on January 25. An open house will be held on January 11 and January 12 between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., weather permitting. More information can be found here.

Crundwell pleaded guilty to a federal charge of wire fraud for stealing over $53 million from the city of Dixon since 1990. She was arrested in April of last year. At that time, she agreed to the liquidation of assets acquired by the fraud scheme. Since then, the U.S. Marshals Service has recovered around $8 million from the online and live auctions of approximately 400 quarter horses, cars, trailers, tack, and personal belongings from homes in Dixon and Englewood, Florida.

Net proceeds from the sale of her assets will be held in escrow pending proceedings on restitution to the victim. You can find more information on the federal case against Crundwell here.
