
The Northern Illinois University Huskies will make their first appearance at the Discover Orange Bowl, and the city of Rockford is celebrating by dedicating an entire month to the team.
Rockford Mayor Larry Morrissey made the announcement during the December 31 meeting of the Rockford City Council.
Thousands of students and fans made the trek to Miami to see the game, which will take place on New Year's Day. Locally, the NIU Rockford Alumni Club and the NIU Alumni Association are hosting a party at Brewsky's (4414 Charles Street in Rockford) at 7:00 p.m. The event is free but registration is requested at http://myniu.com/niu-is-in-the-orange-bowl/.
The Huskies will face the Florida State Seminoles, with kick-off at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN.
