If you're looking for a fun way to ring in the New Year with the entire family, look no further than the Riverfront Museum Park.
Celebrate New Year's Around the World: A Family New Year's Festival will be held at the Burpee Museum of Natural History from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 31. Attendees can learn about the New Year's traditions in Rockford's six sister cities, see exhibits and listen to stories from The Native American Awareness Committee, make New Year's crafts, play games, and participate in a parade.
Cost for the party at the Burpee is $5 per person, but members are free. For more information, visit www.burpee.org.
Nearby, the Discovery Center Museum will host its own New Year's Eve party, Countdown to Fun, from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The party will feature countdowns to midnight around the world at 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. our time. The event will also feature science, games, crafts, and Kantorei, the singing boys of Rockford.
There will be science demonstrations at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. and planetarium shows at Noon and 2:30 p.m.
Cost for the event is included with admission to the museum, which is $7 for adults and children. Children age one and younger and members are free. Planetarium shows are $1 extra for the public and $0.50 extra for members.
