We hope you enjoyed your holiday wherever you are. For the staff at WREX, being at work means being away from loved ones. Here's some of our own traditions this time of year.
Of course, some of those plans have changed with employment. Whether its celebrating Christmas on a different day, or using technology to bridge the miles separating us from our relatives, at 13 News we make it work.
"I think just knowing that I have a job helps me get along and then also, having a wonderful job." -says 13 News at 6, and 13 News 10 at 10 producer April Kalepp.
Employees in front of and behind the camera share their stand-out Christmas memories and traditions.
When 13 News Sports Director Derek Bayne was a kid, "My little brother and I, we would sneak downstairs and get our stockings before everyone else would come downstairs."
Now-a-days, 13 News Director and Master Control Operator Michael Stanley and his family open "up Christmas presents on Christmas Eve, and we always just sit down and have a nice meal before that."
13 News Reporter and 13 News Weekend Anchor Matt Groves celebrates with a timeless treasure.
"It's not the Christmas season until we watch 'White Christmas' with Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney on VHS." -he says.
Other employees play family games before opening presents, or listen to holiday songs, like 13 News Chief Meteorologist Eric Sorensen and 13 News Master Control Operator Kurtis Lawler. Some holiday activities, like 13 News at 5 producer Rashanah Baldwin's are a little untraditional.
"I don't always indulge in the festivities like everyone else but I like working out, going to the gym, I like to stay fit and catch up on some work." -she says.
From WREX, have a great holiday and a wonderful new year.
