Students design ornaments for National tree

A piece of Rockford hangs on the 2012 National Christmas tree in President's Park.

Rockford Area Arts Council's ArtsPlace program and students from Kennedy Middle School designed ornaments inspired by Rockford or Illinois.  One ornament is displayed in Washington D.C. while the remaining 23 ornaments will decorate the Illinois tree.

Sculpture artist and Kennedy art teacher, Marco Basurto, got a chance to help guide students with their creations.

"Rockford has so much talent and I love working with kids in Rockford.  There are so many opportunities to showcase their art, they're very talented. I'm very impressed with what I've seen in the last 4 years that I've been here."

The 2012 National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony was December 6th.
