A 62-year-old Sycamore man had to be cut from his plane after his small air plane crashed in a field south of DeKalb Airport Tuesday.

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Department says James Auman ended up trapped in the plane that flipped over in a field near Rt. 38 east of Webster Road.

Auman was conscious and able to talk to rescue crews when they arrived. He was airlifted by Lifeline Helicopter to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.

The FAA and NTSB are leading the investigation into the crash.
