ROCKFORD (WREX) -
Eleven local teachers will have a little help funding classroom projects, thanks to grants from the Golden Apple Foundation.
A total of $4,989.29 was given out to fund six classroom projects. They were given to:
- Sarah Meyers, Fairview Early Childhood Center - $340.80
- Increasing Achievement with Autism: "Assists in meeting the communication and social interaction deficits that children on the Autism spectrum are faced with, providing materials, paired with communication tools for carryover of learning from school into the home environment."
- Sherril Erickson, Rockton Grade School - $748.49
- Joyful Writing in Kindergarten: "Developing a community of learners who work together through solid, meaning-centered and engaging kindergarten writing that incorporates the Common Core State Standards."
- Melodie Boyd, Cherry Valley Elementary School - $400.00
- Tail Waggin' Tutors: "Overcoming apprehension at reading by providing a relaxed environment where all threats of being judged are set aside as the child relaxes."
- Susan Busker & Renee Guse, Whitehead Elementary School - $1,250.00
- Improving Competencies in Science & Reading: "Improves student performance in both science and reading by providing support materials that allow students of all reading levels to access grade-level science information and also improves reading level."
- Carrie Smith, Marlena Stechschulte, Ami Andre, Michelle Mershon, and Lauren Keen, Christian Life Schools - $1,250.00
- Exploring & Learning Through Play: "Promoting creative and critical thinking while learning through play, using divergent materials with whole group, small group, and centers."
- Barb Swick, Meehan Elementary School - $1,000.00
- Be Excited About Reading-BEAR: "An innovative program that sets expectations for students to read every night at home."
The teachers will be recognized at the 17th Annual Golden Apple Banquet in April.
