First commander of Rockford's Geographic Police Pilot District announced

The first Commander of the new Geographic Police Pilot District (PPD) was announced by Rockford Police Chief Chet Epperson on Monday.

Effective December 11, Lieutenant Douglas Pann will be Assistant Deputy Chief and will be the Commander of the first of three geographic policing districts. His official title will be Commander of the PPD for District II.

Under his new role, Pann will work to implement the district plan for District II, including placing police personnel, developing logistical plans for the operation and implementing the community police philosophy. These steps will help lead the department into the decentralization of its current structure.

"I am honored to accept the position of Assistant Deputy Chief and excited about the opportunity to serve as the Pilot Police District Commander as we move forward toward decentralization and community-based policing," Pann said.

All Rockford Police Department personnel were invited to apply for the new position, and give individuals were selected for the final interview.

Pann has worked for the department for 19 years.
