Gas prices in the Rockford region have dropped 7.4 cents in the last week, more than the national price drop of 4.8 cents.
According to RockfordGasPrices.com, the average price per gallon of gas was $3.38 in Rockford yesterday. That price is 7.6 higher than one year ago and 0.8 cents lower than one month ago.
Nationally, the price was $3.34 per gallon, 5.5 cents higher than one year ago and 12.2 cents lower than one month ago.
"The national average has continued to see a steady decline over the last week, and that trend will likely continue through this week at the very least," GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan said. "Last week, the Energy Information Administration reported one of the largest single week increases in gasoline inventories in my recent memory, which will likely contribute downward pressure to wholesale gasoline prices in the days and perhaps weeks ahead."
