One person in Marengo and another in Rock Falls have more to celebrate this season than just the holidays; they each won over $100,000 in the Illinois Lottery.
A $150,000 Lucky Day Lotto ticket was sold at the Brandt Pharmacy in Marengo. That ticket matched all five numbers (18, 24, 26, 28, 32) in Sunday's drawing, but the winner has yet to come forward. The store will get a $1,500 bonus for selling the ticket.
In Rock Falls, James Kimmell won $200,000 with Illinois Lottery Instant Bingo. "As soon as I came out of shock, I called my wife to tell her," Kimmell said. "Then I signed the back of my ticket and put it on top of the refrigerator. That seemed like a safe place to keep it."
Kimmell and his wife Theresa turned in their winning ticket to the Illinois Lottery Check Writing Center in Rockford. They plan on using their winnings by investing and caring for their three children and five grandchildren.
The winning ticket was purchased at The Beverage Store in Rock Falls. The store will receive a $2,000 bonus.
