There are many ways to get into the holiday spirit. One you may not think of is seeing a holiday play. A timeless favorite can be found at Rock Valley College.
Christmas with the Conroys is not a new play by any means. Even so, it continues to draw crowds each time it's on stage.
Director Mike Webb wrote the show with his college roommate in 1985. Together they combined stories from their own lives and put them onto a script.
The resulting play has been acted out on stage off and on during holiday seasons since then.
Webb says every time he feels like retiring the play, fans beg for it to come back. "What's surprising to me is that it has aged so well. it's 28 years old it was my first year as director, this is my 28th season, and it's kind of scary because I mean when somebody's not here I can do all the lines," says Webb.
And while the actors in the play change each time the show is put on, one thing remains the same. "It's a major comedy, major," says Glendia Strandin, who plays the mother in Christmas with the Conroys.
Christmas with the Conroys is known to sell out. So if you're looking to get a seat at a future show it's best to get there early.
