Cherry Valley storage building fire damages an estimated $1 million worth of equipment

Posted: Updated:

Just after 10 p.m. Thursday night, Cherry Valley Fire Protection District crews were called to Baumann Park for a structure fire. A Public Works storage building was burning.

Cherry Valley Village President Jim Claeyssen says inside the storage unit is equipment like a back-hoe and end-loader. He estimates all items plus the building itself are worth just over $1,000,000. Claeyssen believes the building is a total loss, but should know more Friday morning. According to Cherry Valley Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Allen Geeser, the fire's cause is still unknown. There were no reports of injuries.

Five fire departments responded to the call, including Cherry Valley Fire Protection District, Rockford Fire Department, West Suburban Fire Protection District, Byron Fire Protection District, and North Park Fire Protection District.
