The massive project to modernize the state's electrical grid may have to wait to 2015.
The Illinois Commerce Commission has approved a request from Commonwealth Edison to delay the project. ComEd needs more time to get ready to install the so-called "smart" meters, after the ICC reduced funding for the project.
The new meters are designed to record electricity consumption in greater detail and more efficiently. The end goal is to prevent future outages and save customers money.
