Eighth graders at Eisenhower Middle School are getting an inside look at the Chicago Rockford International Airport through a job shadowing program.
Over the course of three Tuesdays in December, 180 students will tour the facility and get lessons from air traffic controllers, pilots, airport staff, and mechanics.
Amy Ott, RFD's deputy director of administration and finance, says it's important to give the students an idea of what career options may be open to them. "The number one thing is exposure, learning about the different types of jobs we have here and what opportunities might exist for them down the line," she said.
The airport hopes to partner with other schools in the future for similar programs.
