Toy drive uses social media to give back

The 3rd Annual "Operation: Social Santa" is underway and local businesses are taking part.

The nationwide drive is organized through social networks and will be held until December 16. Participating businesses in Rockford will collect new, unwrapped toys that are between $5 and $15 in value to donate to the Youth Services Network.

"Social media is a great tool for impacting a large group of people to influence social good. With 'Operation: Social Santa,' we're not only helping children who might not get gifts or even essential items this year, but also giving people a chance to give back to the community by doing what they already do every day—share information via social media," Rockford "Operation: Social Santa" Coordinator Katie Dorland said.

Donation locations in the Rockford area are:

  • Domino's Pizza on East State
  • Bookworm Cafe inside the Rockford Public Library East Branch
  • Nextage Professionals Realty
  • Someplace Else II
  • Bistro108
  • Ferguson Bath, Kitchen, and Lighting Gallery
  • Sherwin Williams
  • FitMe Wellness
  • Belvidere High School
  • Alpine Academy

Domino's Pizza, Ferguson Bath, Bistro108, and Bookworm Cafe are giving special offers for every donation.
