Illinois official suspended for drinking then driving state car


An official with the Department of Juvenile Justice is in hot water after it was discovered he drank eight beers before driving a state vehicle.

Ronald Smith, the department's deputy director was at a sports bar on Sunday where he had the equivalent of eight 12-ounce bottles of beer, according to a report from the Illinois Executive Inspector General. Smith then left the bar and drove a state vehicle.

Smith has been suspended for three days for his actions and another employee with the department who consumed part of one cocktail was given counseling on the use of state cars.
