The Northern Illinois Huskies football team made history Sunday night, becoming the first team from the Mid-American Conference to qualify for a Bowl Championship Series game. They're scheduled to play in the Orange Bowl against Atlantic Coast Conference champion Florida State.
The team gathered together at the Yordon Center to watch the BCS selection show, when it was announced that the Huskies would be playing in the Orange Bowl. They finished 15th in the final BCS standings, having to finish in the top 16 to qualify for an automatic BCS bid.
Later that night, Rod Carey was introduced as the 22nd head coach in program history. He replaces Dave Doeren, who left the team Saturday to join the North Carolina State Wolfpack as head coach. Carey's first game as head coach will be the Orange Bowl.
