Two separate instances of crime overnight in Rockford

Rockford police investigate a pair of overnight crimes.

The first happened at the Walmart on West Riverside just before five this morning.

Police say a 63 year old handicapped Rockford man was attacked from behind while putting groceries in his car. The suspect got away with the man's wallet after a short struggle. There is surveillance video of the incident.

Police describe the suspect as a black male, 5' 11", 230 lbs. He was wearing a gray or black hooded sweatshirt.

In a separate incident, a 32 year old man was stabbed in the area of 3rd and Kishwaukee streets. The man was talking with friends when approached by the suspect. After an argument the suspect stabbed the man in the abdomen.

That suspect is described as a black male in his mid twenties, over six feet tall, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt.
