An annual Rockford awards banquet recognizes local people for their dedication in the community.
Every year The Rockford Register Star hands out its Excalibur and Excelsior awards. Individuals and organizations earn the honor for what, for many of them, is a lifetime of achievement making the community a better place.
After being nominated nearly half a dozen times, Paul Logli is this year's Excalibur winner. He was picked from a list of 5 finalists. So was the Children's Home and Aid Society, this year's Excelsior recipient.
Both say the honor is important to them and the community.
Paul Logli, "It's something to remember, that there's no challenge that we can't face and face excessively and this really isn't about me or the United Way but all the non for profit leaders."
Eileen Liezert, Regional Vice President of the Children's Home and Aid Society, "To be among this group of people and organizations and to be the finalist, is really thrilling"
The Excalibur Award's been handed out 42 years; Excelsior winners go back to 1978.
